Be a first rate version of yourself, not a second rate version of someone else

Oh, Judy.

Wednesday was my final booty camp session and I have to say that I felt a ton of emotions in that last 60 minute class and have spent the last 24 hours trying to convey those emotions into a blog post. Here it goes:

I am really proud of myself for signing up and going to every single session, rain or shine. It took me 13 months, but I did it. I can blame scheduling for part of the delay but I think part of me was afraid.

Afraid to try something new.
Afraid to challenge myself.
Afraid that I would fail.

I have proven myself wrong entirely because I did something new, challenged myself and was able to do everything Susan threw at us. I can now do 60-75 push ups on my toes. I can hold a plank for 60 seconds + and side planks for 30 seconds +.

I am proud of the changes in my body. Over the last 8 weeks, I have lost a total of 5 inches (biggest change was the 2 inches lost from my hips) and have gone from 27.0% body fat to 21.8%. I can see muscles that I've never seen before. I feel stronger, leaner and more toned.

Booty Camp (and other classes I've been doing) has inspired me to join a gym. I know that I've said repeatedly that I'm "not a gym person", but I realize that I am a class person and I'm joining a gym so that I will have oodles of classes at my fingertips. I am excited to continue with ZUMBA (post of that to come soon!) and try things like BodyPUMP, spinning and aquafit.

After class on Wednesday, Joey reminded me that this is just the beginning and that I have accomplished a lot in just 8 weeks. He's absolutely right!! I am so happy that I took the plunge and just did it. I have learned a lot about myself and what I am capable of.

I have to say a big thank you to all of the other girls in class for being great motivators and total inspirations each week. I also want to say thank you to Susan, our fearless leader for kicking my butt every week, checking in with me and really pushing me to reach my full potential. I also want to say thank you to all of you!! I have appreciated your feedback and comments on my boot camp posts so much. You've really be integral in my motivation over the last two months and for that I am grateful.

If you want to share your July activity chart with my readers, please be sure to drop me an email (wwleaderashley@gmail.com) with a picture and description this weekend. I'll be sharing my highlights as well!

And if you haven't already, be sure to check out my giveaway.

Have an amazing long weekend xo

That is amazing Ash! Yay for reaching goals, nothing better!

And as we talked about last night, I am so ready to get on mine now that I have my motivator. Even called my trainer last night to get back on that. I did quit the gym a month ago and feel great about that too! I gained weight since joining the gym because it took time away from my yoga/pilates. It is important to find what works for everyone individually... given my nature- working like mad all day and than running off to a high intensity gym class didn't work for me. I left feeling drained and depleted, found myself snacking more and not sleeping as well. I know that to lose fat mass, I need gentle exercise consistently that helps bring down my cortisol and adrenaline levels. For me, it is not so much changing what I eat and what exercise I do but how I do it. Keeping things regular is key, and I know this is a huge challenge for anyone who works from home and has their own business.

Happy we have found each other to co-depend inspire to reach our goals... seems we have each done what the other is striving for :) Life is sweet that way. We get just what we need, when we need it.

Amazing! That's wonderful! Every class too, that's very hard to do, but you did it. You continue to amaze and impress me more with every blog post. And your writing is so poignant and honest. What can I say? I'm an Ash-fan :)

Are you joining Goodlife or do other gyms there also offer Zumba? You'll discover the classes (and instructors) that you love and connect with. You may enjoy the BodyFlow, seeing as you are a fan of yoga. Or you may not like it, seeing as you are a fan of yoga ;)

Have a great time, I look forward to hearing of your adventures!

Aw, I am so happy for you! I feel the same way about boot camp. When I first signed up I thought it would be a good way to lose a few pounds, I had no idea how much more I would get out of it.

PS: Holy push-ups! You are a superwoman!

Meghan - I love the gifts that life brings us, especially when we need them most. I am glad that I can be an motivator for you, because you certainly are that to me! Sounds like your plan is going to be great, and I'll be happy to help you along the way! And if you need a yoga buddy, you know where to find me

Nikki - you are such a sweetheart. I really appreciate your kind words and am so happy that others can learn and be inspired this blog. I am indeed joining Goodlife!! Our office has a corporate plan and the $$ is going to come right out of my paycheque - what excuse do I have!? I plan to try Flow next week and I will definitely be posting on my thoughts and feelings on all the different classes!! Someone said that some 'dancers' really like Jam so I'll see about that too! Tonight I am checking out my second zumba class there

Andrea - I left you a comment, but I am so impressed with your booty camp results!! You have so much to be proud of. Isn't it amazing when we accomplish things we didn't realize possible?

Ash, thanks for inspiring me every time I visit your blog. You have such a positive outlook on your body and are so patient and kind to yourself. I strive to be like that!! Thanks for sharing all this awesome positive self talk and sharing your triumphs with us! Love ya lots lady!!
Like Meghan, I am trying to figure out what works for my body now that I am getting healthy and able to exercise again. I still haven't figured it out but am just experimenting with different exercise. Sometimes I find myself wanting to do what others are just because it seems to work for them and as you know, I always say, that doesn't mean it will work for me!! Listening to my body with exercise is way more difficult for me than food. So I continue to work on it!
The booty camp does sound really fun though.... wish you were closer so we could take one together! I am off to see if there is one in my area... xoxo
